Wow, the 'net!

It took a week, but here in my new pad in Walla Walla, I actually have internet access again!

The whole cable thing didn't work out. Silly contractors who remodeled my condo, they cut the cables and never reconnected them. Probably union.

So I had a different crew bolt a microwave dish antenna to a wall of my balcony. Now I have a faster symmetrical connection (same speed up and down) for a bit less money.

I didn't just go this route in the first place because I didn't know if it would fly with the Home Owner Association I'm now a member of. Then I figured they could shove it since I got hosed on the cable. Then my HOA booklet came in the mail today and I discovered that there are no regs in regard to the addition I had attached to the building. Right on, right on.

I'm considering attempting to nuke a hot dog in front of my internet access point. If that fails, I've got a shiny new grill with 30" of grilling surface. Oh yeah.

5 dead, 2 wounded, 1 captured.

Description of a day in a war zone?

Nope.

I slipped into Walla Walla before the sun came up this morning and got after the local pigeon populace with a rifle. About 30 minutes, 11 shots fired and one trap emptied, all kosher-like with the city police force. The goal (well, really, my goal) is to wipe out the flying rats within one year. I mean that - every last one. Aided by a birdy birth control program my company is installing as part of a public/private funded project by the city and area merchants, I think I can do it.

That's how I plan to spend every morning before the sun comes up until they're all gone.

Damn I love my job. This proves wrong many who told me that there was no way to market the skills I learned in the U.S. Army Infantry in the civilian job market. I told you bastards that my expert marksman qualification on the M16A2 is in fact a sparkling resume item.

And I got word today from the mortgage types that the party starts at 8:15am, Monday, March 17th at the title company office in town. The keys will be mine. Oh yes, they will be mine.

The title: what I feel like I've been doing with mortgage types lately.

It's all good though. Some set backs recently, but bigger gains today. I should be going to the closing table with just 1/3 of the cash they wanted in the first place, same monthly payment. Oh yeah.

I'll put that ammo into some other target, make it blow up, if you know what I mean.

Persistence. It just took persistence. And remembering that it's just business. No hard feelings. If there is, oh well - go have a cry. Not on this side of the table though.

Anyway, enjoy some tunes:

<lj-embed id="7" />

New

Moving to Walla Walla in a few months. Waiting for my replacement to get trained up.

Why? Only single guy without kids in the company and they need someone out there. Simple math.

The weather is nicer out there. This is honestly the reason I accepted the transfer. I didn't even ask for a raise. Such is my hatred of snow.

Buying a condo. Top-to-bottom remodeled/refurbished within last year, all new appliances, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, top floor, balcony overlooks the pool.

The numbers still indicate that I can retire within three years if I want. Just gotta avoid developing some expensive new hobby (other than home ownership). It has occurred to me that when that day arrives, I may not know what to do with myself, so it might be a good idea to keep working for a while.

Cat won't stop meowing at me.

There's 2+ feet of snow on the ground outside, the temperature is moving above freezing and it is supposed to rain for at least the next five days. May splurge on rubber duckies to release in the street in front of my house when the flood hits.

Haven't woken up after sunrise in quite a while. Going to try it out tomorrow morning to remember what that's like.

New Cha-Ching!, Part II

A little more than 24 hours later, and I've closed my first FOREX position for a 3.4% profit total. If I could keep that up for all of the days of the year the international currency markets are open (they're open 24/6), I'll more than double my money in one year (kinda doubt it will work out like that, but I think I'll be making some nice scratch with this stuff).

Damn this is fun!

Sometime today: another stock purchase going through. Buying a little more of a REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) that I'm already in. Big portfolio mostly full of commercial real estate, not a loan originator, FAT dividend, but the chicken littles are running scared from it anyway. As someone on a message board associated with the stock said, "I love a half-off sale."

<lj-embed id="6" />

New Cha-Ching!

I'm now in FOREX, the multi-trillion dollar international currency market. I just placed my first trade, buying the British Pound with borrowed Japanese Yen, a classic move in these circles known as the carry trade. I'm using a particular entry/exit strategy that I've been practicing in a demo account for quite some time now that has consistently delivered profit and not suffered a single loss. Now it's for real.

New horizons. Cheers!

<lj-embed id="5" />

I've been knocked off the 'net since Tuesday, due to a combination of lame events. First, our internet provider managed to take out service all over town, and on the same day, one of my roommates dropped a heavy thing on our router. Once service was restored, it took a long process of trial and error for us to discover that our router had been reduced to a simple switch that would only allow one computer access to the 'net at a time. $40 out of the pocket of the unintentionally destructive roommate later, here I am again.

<lj-embed id="4" />

That will be enough of that kind of thing for a while, thanks.

<lj-embed id="3" />

[yeah, I've been plugging in the videos of the songs I list as currently playing. It's nicer than making you all guess what they sound like, eh? :) ]

Cha-ching?

So the headline financials are screaming doom and gloom, but the broader spectrum of relevant fundamentals are largely good. Generally this means sweet discounts for me that allow me to buy bigger pay raises.

And that's usually the case a week or so before I start my next round of buying. Lately though, when I do buy, the effect has already worn off.

So, chicken littles, I have a humble request: please keep freaking out for 7 to 8 more days. Do it for me? I want these discounts.

Off to the west side of Washington tomorrow... AGAIN. Third weekend in a row, and thankfully the last. Party two weekends ago, wedding last weekend (actually in Cannon Beach, Oregon, but I had to make a stop in Bremerton, WA on the way), and another wedding this weekend. GROUP WEDDINGS, PEOPLE! GROUP WEDDINGS!

And it's 12-13 hour workdays all the days in between.

I'm going to do nothing next weekend, and I bet it will be everything I ever thought doing nothing could be.
